News for 2014

Felicity Fair-Thompson's new book is The Kid on Slapton Beach, is set in the context of preparations for the D-Day landings in Devon at Christmas 1943. It's about twelve year old Harry, a boy who has to leave everything behind when his whole town is mysteriously evacuated from the area.

Shelley McAlister has been commended for the 2014 Hippocrates Poetry in Medicine Prize for her poem Helmand Ward. It is part of a sequence of poems called Plastics and Burns.

Other news in 2014

We had a great Beach Hut Week at Hope Beach, Shanklin in the first week of June. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed talking to passers-by, who sometimes enquired why they didn't see much writing going on . . .

Where Jennie met Randolph . . . Once again our winter week-end away will be at  Rosetta Cottage in Cowes. This will be our sixth visit to Rosetta, a National Trust property, where Winston Churchill's parents met and got engaged. We'll enjoy a busy week-end of writing, reading and sharing ideas. This year we're trying something different - singing! Music teacher Monica Maloney is coming from Sussex to help us find our musical voices, as well as our writing ones. Eating, drinking, and walking along the beach always come into it as well.

Our community performances have continued throughout 2014. In June we visited Whippingham WI for a slideshow and performance and in October we did a writing workshop with the Newchurch WI.
Our next performance is The Wreck of The Irex, November 21st, at the Brighstone Historical Society.
